Taxi owners who went at length to ensure their cars are road worthy and properly licensed wants police to go after illegal taxi operators.

A taxi owner, Fred Talea stated that illegal taxi operators are stealing most of their jobs.

"There are taxis that operate after hours to avoid police checks. Most of the unregistered Taxis often would stop working during the Police checking hours."

Talea said as soon as they know the Police check is over they would put up their signs and start working.

"This is unfair to those who are properly registered to operate in Honiara City," said the long time Taxi driver.

Tale also wants the Police to do regular check-ups instead of doing it only at the end of the months. He said when illegal taxis are put off the street, business is good.

Talea also said unlicensed Taxi's are a risk to passengers and other road users.
