The government of Taiwan today released more than SBD$900,000 to fund two separate government projects in the country.

Taiwan Ambassador George Chan announced the approval of the projects during a brief meeting with Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare this afternoon.

The government earlier this year requested Taiwanese funding for a Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Project and the Provincial Tourism Development.

Mr Chan said the Taiwanese government had agreed to allocate SBD$347,000 for SME development project and SBD$600,000 for provincial tourism development.

The funds will be used for each respective project as soon as projects are finalized.

Mr Chan said funding assistance came from Taiwan's 2006 assistance package to support the government projects.

Prime Minister Sogavare thanked the Taiwanese government for its continuous genuine support for Solomon Islands.

The Prime Minister reiterated Solomon Islands commitment to support Taiwan in its endeavors in the international arena.
