Survivors of Sunken Ship Get Treatment

Survivors of the sunken vessel Solfish 001 have been transferred to Honiara for further treatment late yesterday afternoon.

A police officer at Kirakira station in the Makira-Ulawa Province confirms to SIBC News that six children with their mothers and guardians were brought to Honiara late yesterday afternoon on a plane.

The police spokesperson says the rest of the passengers have left for Honiara on the Patrol boat Lata.

The survivors were rescued by a foreign cargo liner on Saturday night.

The 49 survivors include 16 crew members and 33 passengers - 10 of whom are women and 6 children.

The vessel, owned by Lee Kwok Kuen, had left Honiara for Temotu Province on Monday last week but was reported missing after it failed to arrive at Lata on schedule on Wednesday night.
