Solomon Islands joined other countries in the World today to officially launch the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence.

The theme for this year is "Structures of Violence: Defining the Intersections of Militarism and Violence Against Women".

According to the Coordinator of Elimination of Violence Against Women at the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs Pioni Boso, the main message the Ministry and its stakeholders want to put across is that the country has a problem with violence against women.

She said because of this people need to join hands with the Government to help eliminate violence from homes and communities in the country.

The 16 Days of Activism will also include the World Aids Day on the 1st of December, the International Day of the Disable on the 3rd of December, Montreal Massacre anniversary on the 6th of December and World Human Rights Day on the 10th of December.
