A stakeholder's consultative workshop on the implementation of Solomon Islands Pest and Disease Response Plan takes place tomorrow in Honiara.

A statement from the Ministry of Agriculture says the government is preparing response plans, through its ministry, to mount an effective response in the event that Avian Influenza, A1 or bird flu reaches the country.

It says the country is currently free from A1 as well as many other highly contagious pests and diseases that can devastate crops and animals.

It however says this freedom status from A1 must not be taken lightly and that we must not be complacent on the issue.

Input by stakeholders at the workshop tomorrow will assist the Ministry to develop a response plan for the incursion of A1.

Those attending the workshop include officers from Government Ministries, the National Disaster Council, Non Government Organisations and the Media.
