The newly appointed Ambassador of Spain to the Solomon Islands, His Exceelency Antonio Casano, was today officially sworn in at the Government House by Acting Governor General, Sir Peter Kenilorea.

Speaking during the ceremony the Ambassador, HE Antonio Casano, stated that the two countries have enjoyed close relations after establishing diplomatic relations in the late 1980s. HE Casano also stated that Spain is very supportive of the developmental aspirations of the Solomon Islands.

"Spain firmly believes that its complimentary role to existing technical exchanges on development aid is of mutual benefit for the bilateral relations, between EU and Solomon Islands," says HE Casano.

The Acting Governor General, Sir peter Kenilorea, in response said that the Solomon Islands appreciates the role played by Spain within the European Union, being one of the major financers on the 'Development Funds.'

Sir Peter stated that the Solomon Islands will continue to support Spain on international issues of mutual concern.
