The Solomon Islands has reaffirmed its position on supporting the electoral reforms to be implemented by the Fijian government.

At a recent meeting between Fiji's Foreign Minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola and Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Gordon Darcy Lilo, both parties discussed Fiji's progress towards achieving electoral reforms.

Hon. Lilo also commended the way Fiji has conducted itself on the international front. The comments were made after Kubuabola updated Lilo on recent developments in Fiji.

He stated that while the merits of the Draft Constitution are being acknowledged, there are certain critical elements that require further discourse and analysis such as the size of Parliament relative to the size of Fiji’s population, and the notion of a largely unelected national people’s assembly comprised principally of non government organizations sitting alongside the elected Parliament.

Kubuabola told Lilo these are possible amendments that the Constituent Assembly will be considering, to the draft Constitution.

Kubuabola has assured Lilo that the New Constitution would be ready by March.
