The government has declared 8th of July as a public holiday.

Minister of Home Affairs, James Tora made the declaration yesterday.

The public holiday is to mark Solomon Islands' 30th anniversary of nationhood.

Citizens from around the provinces are in the capital to be part of the week-long celebrations that is currently taking place.

"We are very excited because the anniversary has really brought together everyone from all ethnic background to a common ground," students told Solomon Times.

It is now the only buzz among everyone that even going to the office is sometimes an effort as most prefer to head down east to the show grounds.
