Solomon Islands Develops Paralympics Development plans for Rio 2016

An athlete pathway for Rio 2016 has been established by the Solomon Islands National Paralympic Committee following a successful Agitos Foundation programme.

The Organisational Capacity Programme (OCP) is designed to strengthen National Paralympic Committees (NPC) in a number areas, including governance, management, leadership and sport promotion.

Representatives from the Oceania Paralympic Committee held a workshop in Solomon Islands capital Honiara involving NPC officials, Government representatives and members of the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands.

Athlete development and finance and fundraising was the main item on the agenda as the Solomon Islands looks to build on its Paralympic debut at London 2012 where they were represented by a single competitor, Hellen Saohaga, who finished 15th in the F57-58 shot put competition.

For Rio 2016, as well as athletics, the Solomon Islands hope to be represented in powerlifting.
