Mr Alfred Boge, a security guard working at the Pacific Casino Hotel, was awarded a Governor-General's Commendation for Brave Conduct in the 2009 Australian Bravery Awards.

The Australian High Commissioner, Mr Frank Ingruber, presented Mr Boge with his Award at a ceremony on Monday 22 February, 2010 at the Australian High Commission in Honiara.

The award is in recognition of the brave conduct displayed by Mr Boge during the unrest in April 2006. Mr Boge initially assisted police to evacuate the Pacific Casino Hotel, but subsequently joined a prison officer and two police officers in returning to the hotel.

He helped locate and assist thirteen guests and other hotel staff, joined other rescuers in escorting these people from the hotel, and found a boat to transport them to safety.
