The Solomon Games is likely to take place soon, according to organizers of the national games.

Vice President of the Solomon Games committee, Golden Kiloko said that current tentative dates for the games are 23rd June to 5th July.

A team consisting of sports development officers, the NOCSI General Secretary, a representative of the Home Affairs Department, a representative of the Ministry of Education and Mr. Kiloko will leave for Malaita provincial capital, Auki, the games venue, on Friday to have a look at facilities and give feedback to the organizing committee.

Solomon Times was informed that the organizing committee will make its final decision when it meets to discuss following the visit.

Mr. Kiloko revealed that the government has donated 200 thousand dollars towards the games.

Solomon Times was informed that another tentative month for the games is in August.

Mr. Kiloko said there are matters at hand including the athletics and football venues that are yet to be ready for use.

"It is disappointing because the bid was won in 2006 during the Solomon Games in Makira, so there has been sufficient time given to prepare the venue," he said.

Mr. Kiloko said that although decision is yet to be made, there is the possibility of games taking place mid-year.

He encouraged all participating teams to keep preparing.
