The Premier for Malaita province Hon. Richard Irosaea, in a recent interview with the Solomon Times, stated that poor sporting facilities and the general lack of sporting equipments led to the cancellation of the Solomon Games. Premier Irosaea said that this was due largely to the difficulty in obtaining proper funding to construct these sporting facilities in the Province. However, Premier Irosaea is hoping that the game could be held next year as, "it will be a waste of money and time for the Province to build facilities and not make good use of it." It is understood that few facilities have been built, but the timimng made it difficult for the games to go ahead. The Solomon Games was last held in Makira Ulawa Province and despite the success of the games organizers say that the logistical arrangements was very costly.
