The President of Taiwan Chen Shui-bian has presented a medal to Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.

President Shui-bian stated that the medal was in recognition of Mr Sogavare's long-term support of Taiwan.

Mr Sogavare has been very vocal in his support for Taiwan. He had made a pro-Taiwan speech at the United Nations last September.

The Solomon Islands also voted in support of Taiwan's bid for membership in the World Health Assembly on Monday.

On Wednesday President Chen expressed his gratitude for Prime Minister Sogavare's friendship.

Prime Minister Sogavare is currently on a State visit to Taiwan, he has reiterated the Solomon Islands' support for Taiwan in joining the international community.
Mr Sogavare said he would make further efforts to strengthen ties with Taiwan. The Solomon Islands are one of Taiwan's 25 remaining diplomatic allies.
