The Small and Medium Enterprises Council (SMEC) of Solomon Islands held a brief ceremony to mark the completion of a business training course conducted by local consultant, Martin Housanau.

The course focused on some key areas in management, with a particular focus on human resources management and book keeping.

During the hand over of the certificates Mr Housanau said that while theory is important, "the crucial part of the training is putting into practice what has been taught."

The Technical Director of SMEC, Lelia Firisua, stressed that what the council is trying to do in conducting such short courses is inspire people to start businesses. "This, although small, does help in rehabilitating the economy of the Solomon Islands."

The certificates are accredited by the Ministry of Commerce and Trade and the Ministry of Education and Human Resources.
