The President of Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) and Development were in Rennell-Bellona Province for a two weeks tour to meet with the rugby association in the province.

The duo during their two-weeks tour conducted two coaching and refereeing workshops for West Rennell and Bellona Rugby Associations.

This is part of the Solomon Islands Rugby Outreach Project that is funded by the Australian Government through its Australian Sports Outreach Program which started back in early 2008.

The first workshop in West Rennell was conducted for two days for 17 participants, followed by another workshop at Suani Rest House in Bellona for 15 participants.

The pair will visit the East Rennell Rugby Association to conduct similar workshops at the end of this month.

Courses covered in the workshops aims at training and improving skills of local coaches and referees in the province where rugby is currently active.

This is to ensure that quality coaching and refereeing is practiced in those associations to ensure that rugby is played in a fair, safe and enjoyable environment.

The tour was also to identify coaches and referees in the provinces with potentials to do the accreditation levels of either coaching or refereeing once they complete the L1 Coaching or Level 1 Refereeing courses.

SIRUF will tour other provinces to conduct similar workshops, and they are: Western, Malaita and Makira provinces.
