When it comes to development, small can be beautiful, Solomon Islands Prime Minister Dr. Derek Sikua said when he officially closed the 2008 National Trade, Agriculture and Cultural show on Friday.

The Prime Minister, who spent a good part of Friday visiting many of the stalls in the showground, said that he was encouraged to see small cottage based businesses displaying their goods.

"The SupSup garden display at the Agricultural Village is a classic example of small and viable project that utilize small areas...yet they offer huge varieties in vegetables and farm animals," Dr. Sikua said in his speech.

"This, I believe, is the way forward for the Solomon Islands...not all big developments can bring in money, small can be beautiful."

The Prime Minister encouraged landowners to maximize the use of their land in small scale agricultural projects. "This means taking on a more proactive approach...with commitment and interest in developing our many potentials in this sector."
