Promoting women's soccer in the country is a priority for Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF).
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, SIFF General Secretary, Eddie Ngava, said the country's needs to be aware of the importance of women soccer.He said awareness talks will be held around the communities in order for people to be aware, and accept, women taking on a sport that is acceptable in society as a game only for men.
"Promoting women's soccer in our country is among SIFF's priority, which will need the understanding from the public," he said.
Meanwhile, one of the country's female soccer player, Diane Justus, told Solomon Times that a committee responsible for women's football will be going around schools to give talks to female students who may have an interest in soccer.
Ms. Justus who works with SIFF adds that the committee will also work on organizing a youth competition for girls who are keen on picking football skills.
"This competition will help us to identify players to play in the national high school girls competition championships sometimes this year."
The committee will also hold a one-day Women's Football Awareness Day, "a good opportunity for interested players to promote themselves".
She said women will be back on the field when the Women's Soccer League resumes July to September at the SIFF Academy field.
Ms. Justus encouraged women to form teams to play alongside men's football clubs affiliating with the Honiara Football Association.
"Like if there is a men's team like Marist, women should form a team that will affiliate to Marist and be linked to that team."
Ms. Justus said this will help boost women's soccer in the country when working together with men's established soccer teams.
