Senior Government Officials on Wednesday 12 May met with the Director of the University of South Pacific, Solomon Islands Center, Dr Billy Fito’o and discussed ways of strengthening cooperation between the Government and the University’s Solomon Islands Center.

The officials representing the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination and Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development held fruitful discussions.

The Officials briefed the USP Center Director on the Government’s Redirection Policy, future training opportunities for SI Students, and academic performance of our students.

The meeting noted the successful cooperation between Solomon Islands Government and the University and the keen interest of USP to support the labor training and Human Resources Development of the Country.

Officials were also briefed on the SIG students’ enrollment at the Center as well as the development relating to the Fourth Campus in Solomon Islands and keen interest of USP to take on more students at its Honiara Campus in the future.

One of the issues highlighted in their discussions was the importance of undertaking programme audit, monitoring of all SIG sponsored students to ensure compliance, and that they complete their programmes and training on schedule and according to their scholarship awards.

Officials were also briefed that over 92% of USP courses are now on line and students can complete their Degree courses at the USP Center in Honiara without going to the main campus in Suva, Fiji, except for few science courses.
