A seminar for the unemployed youths of Burns Creek Community started today.
Conducted by the Community Based Education Distributors (CBED) Department within the Solomon Islands Planned Parenthood Association (SIPPA), the seminar aims to help the young people to be aware of health issues that affect youths.Facilitator for the youth seminar, Oscar Watesao, said that participants after the seminar should be aware of basic health issues, increase peer to peer, able to discuss basic teenage pregnancy issues affecting lives of young people among themselves and to approach other youths in common.
Village leaders acknowledged the need for such seminar to help curb issues affecting the lives of young people in their community, including teenage pregnancy.
Speaking at the opening, Chairman of the community, John Seth Iromea, said such a meeting is important to help everyone be aware of issues affecting youths.
He said that although Burns Creek has ben dubbed a criminal community in Honiara, crimes are being done by only few people.
Mr. Iromea said the community needs organizations that deal with community issues to continue to visit them and share encouraging advice to residents of Burns Creek.
