Second-Timer Female Kwaso Offender Arrested

Police officers from the Liquor Licensing Squad arrested a 27-year old woman for the brewing of kwaso at her home at about 11:00am yesterday.

Honiara City Police officers visited the woman at her home at Koa Hill to serve a court summon in relation to an incident on 27 December 2008 where she was previously arrested for allegedly producing kwaso.

The woman was not aware of the police visit and was caught brewing kwaso at her residence. Police arrested her and seized a number of distillation equipment and 150 litres of kwaso.

The woman was taken to the Honiara City Police where she was served with a court summon for her previous arrest and simultaneously charged for the recent kwaso production incident.

She was charged with Restriction on Making Liquor, the same offence of which she was previously charged with.

The 27-year-old woman now charged with two counts of Restriction on Making Liquor and is expected to appear at the Magistrate's court on 18 March 2009.
