The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Technical Department has confirmed that its next selection trial matches will start on Monday next week.

SIFF Development officer, Noel Wagapu, confirmed that from the initial 380 players that participated in the first trials, 96 were selected and will engage in further trials.

Mr. Wagapu said he would trim the current squad from 96 to 40 which is a respectable number to look after

"I hope to trim this squad to about 40 players which is a respectable number to look after by the end of next week," he says.

Commenting on the talents seen during the trials, Mr. Wagapu says there are a lot of potential players and he would be observing some of them again in the second trials.

Those selected will train together as squad under coaches which the SIFF technical department will identify.

Mr. Wagapu says it is important that a training squad is selected so that when the time comes to represent the country abroad we would not have any difficulty assembling the best team to represent the country.

"There are tournaments coming up in the various age categories and it is important we have a squad in place so that when the time comes for them to train, it would be easy for me to just call up," he adds.

Meanwhile, names of those players selected to undergo the second trials will be posted outside the SIFF Academy office.
