Rennell Bellona Ready to Host Premiers Conference

Rennell and Bellona Province will, beginning this week, play host to the premiers conference.

Nine provincial premiers, along with the mayor of Honiara City Council, are on Rennell Island ready for the week-long summit starting today.

The Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, and the Minister of Provincial Government, Japheth Waipora, are expected to fly out to Rennell Island today to officially open the conference.
The Ministry of Provincial Government and Constituency Development has confirmed that at least two chartered flights has been arranged for today.

Speaking to One News last night, Rennell-Bellona Provincial Premier, Solly Tengemoana, stated that it is a huge honour and a pride for the province to host such an important event.

"For a Province that was suspended in the past, and on a few occasions threatened to be suspended, to host such an event means that there is confidence in our current provinicial government," Mr Tengemoana told One News.

The conference will be held at the Kia Koe lodge overlooking Lake Tengano, a World Heritage listed area in East Rennell.
