The first renewable energy demonstration centre in the region is expected to be up and running next month.

Constructed by the Pidgin Holdings Limited, the centre will hold installations of hydro, solar and bio-fuel renewable energy systems.

This is an initiative by the energy division of the ministry of mines, energy and rural electrification.

The Energy division says the centre will be manned by the division to show the public how renewable energy can be installed in the many villages of Solomon Islands, using water, sun and coconut oil to supply electricity.

It says this is one of the unit's plans to produce clean energy that gives less or no carbon emissions into the air.

The construction of the building has been completed and engineers and electricians of Pidgin Holdings Limited are currently putting up electrical installations.
