The former Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Patteson Oti has urged the government to remove workers who fail to perform.

The Member of Parliament for Temotu made the remark during the private members motion on Friday.

There have been talks by the government to improve the administrative system but Oti said that it was a pointless exercise. "We can improve the system but if the people administering the system do not improve then it is useless," said Mr. Oti.

Mr. Oti said that the biggest problem with all government departments is the lack of compliance to the Act governing various administrations, pointing to the Lands Department as an example.

Mr. Oti said that the government needs to look at the human aspect of the system if such administrative reforms are to work, those that do not perform, he said, must go.
