The SIFF Under 16 trial matches schedule to start this afternoon at the SIFF Academy has had to be cancelled because of heavy rain.

SIFF Development officer, Noel Wagapu, who co-ordinates the trials says the two matches schedule for [yesterday] afternoon will be re-schedule for this afternoon.

"It was disappointing for those who had turned up but that is something we have no control over."

The trials will involve more than 10 teams and the SIFF Technical department is confident it will be able to select a better squad from the matches.

Solomon Islands did not participate in a previous OFC under 17 championship in 2007, and again it missed the Under 20 World Cup qualifiers last year so SIFF is committed to send a team this time round in this age group to represent the country.

A panel of selectors will assist Wagapu during the duration of the trials to identify the best players for the squad.

The names of the players selected for the Under 17 squad will be announced straight after the trial matches.

Mr. Wagapu hints that because of time limit, the squad will undergo intensive preparation once the final team is named.
