President Ma's Pacific Visit Begins

Taiwan's President, Ma Ying-jeou has begun his journey to visit Pacific nations, one of which is the Solomon Islands.

The President will embark on a seven-day visit to Taiwan's six diplomatic allies in the South Pacific; Marshall Islands, Republic of Kiribati, Tuvalu, Nauru, Solomon Islands and Palau.

President Ma will also film his weekly online journal overseas for the first time when he visits the Solomon Islands this week.

The President will also host a banquet aboard the "friendship vessel" of the Republic of China Navy, when the ship pays a courtesy call to the Solomon Islands.

Taiwanese officials say Ma will discuss climate change and economic cooperation with the Pacific countries.

The major purpose of his tour is to promote six cooperative ventures, one in each of the six diplomatic partners.
