Detectives from the Central Police Drug Squad have charged a 50-year-old man and uprooted 140 Marijuana plants after an operation at Lunga on Tuesday, the 26 of August 2008.

Police discovered the Marijuana plants at the 50-year-old's residence where the man was arrested.

Acting Honiara City Police Commander, Superintendent, Johnlee Kanabae, said the successful operation by the Central Police Drug Squad demonstrates the capability of police to stop the cultivation of dangerous and illegal drugs.

"Stopping the production of illegal drugs such as marijuana is a priority for the police. This seizure will assist in our efforts to stop drugs coming into Honiara and therefore stop the associated crime.

"Police will continue their hard work in stopping illegal drugs from hitting the streets of Honiara." he said.

The 50-year-old man has been formally charged and awaits a court hearing at the Magistrate Court House.
