The Royal Solomon Islands Police is urging members of the public to come forward with any information in relation to the violent murder of 25-year-old Burns Creek woman, Betty Gwalomae, last week.

The victim was located near the Lunga riverbank last Wednesday night and Police say that the circumstances of her death are suspicious.

Acting-Director National CID, Honiara, Jack Palaga said Police are concerned the offender is still at large.

"A recent post-mortem has indicated that this murder has aspects of a sexual nature and was particularly violent and brutal," he said.

"I am sure that there is someone in the Burns Creek community who may have information in relation to this incident", Mr. Balaga said.

"I am deeply concerned about the circumstances of this young woman's death and the sooner that this offender is apprehended by Police, the safer the community will feel," he said.

Anyone seeing the victim between the hours of 3am and 3pm on Wednesday 25 March 2009 is asked to contact Police immediately. The woman was wearing a purple top and black skirt at the time.

If you have any information concerning this matter, please telephone Detective Walter Titulu at the National C.I.D. on 23304. All calls will be treated in confidence.
