Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an 18-year-old man after it is believed he was struck and killed by a vehicle on Saturday morning between midnight and 3:00am. His name has not been released.

Police understand that the 18-year-old left the Herons Night Club and was walking in an easterly direction when he was struck by a vehicle. The man was flung into a roadside drain where he died.

Detectives from National CID, Central CID, Forensic officers and officers from Kukum Traffic Centre attended the scene on Saturday and commenced an immediate investigation. It appears that alcohol might have been a factor, according to those close to the investigations.

An autopsy revealed that the deceased suffered multiple injuries consistent with being hit by a motor vehicle from behind.

Police are interested in hearing from members of the public that may have witnessed the incident.
