A Russian national investigated in the Solomons for illegally possessing three yellow lorikeets was fined SBD2,000.
The three parrots were found on the foreigner's fishing vessel.Police Media Unit reports that the 36-year-old man committed an offence under the Wildlife Protection Act.
The Russian national was last Thursday fined by the Honiara Magistrates Court.
The parrots were taken off the man and are being cared for.
Police Media Unit reports that the fine was paid.
The fine of the Russian national is an excellent result for police which demonstrates that the courts are willing to prosecute individuals found committing crimes on the foreign fishing vessels.
