Police have charged a 28 year old man from Kiu village, West Are'are in Malaita province, for allegedly defrauding the Community Sector Programs Auki Road Maintenance account with one of the commercial banks.

The suspect was previously employed as an Accounts Clerk at the Community Service Program based in Auki when he allegedly forged a cheque.

The cheque was payable to a local business firm and withdrew a large amount of money.

Police investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly took the cheque from the CSP office and withdrew the money from a commercial bank at Auki on 26 November 2008.

On 28 January 2010, Police arrested the suspect at his home village and was taken to Auki Police Station. In an interview with Police, the suspect admitted to have cashed the cheque and used it for his own benefit.

The 28 year old suspect was charged with one count of Forgery contrary to the Penal Code and was granted bailed to appear at the Honiara Magistrate's court on 15 February 2010.
