Munda Police have arrested and charged a 30-year-old man in relation to the death of young man from Rendova at Munda last Wednesday.

Police investigation revealed that the deceased and the 30-year-old accused were having an argument when a fight broke out.

The deceased sustained serious injuries allegedly from the fight and was admitted to Munda Hospital. He was later referred Goldie Hospital and later to Gizo Hospital for further medical attention on 16 April. The deceased unfortunately died shortly after arriving in Gizo.

The accused was arrested in Munda not long after the incident and was also transported to Gizo where he is currently remanded in Police custody.

Munda Police were inundated by the increasing number of angry relatives of the deceased who gathered in Munda and threatened to avenge their relative after hearing the news of his death.

Gizo Police responded on the same day and deployed a number officers to Munda to assist with the situation there.

The Police Response Team (PRT) along with NCID detectives and Forensics investigators flew in to Munda from Honiara with the much needed additional support on Saturday 17 April.

Police have been holding talks with relatives and family members of both parties who have agreed to resolved the matter peacefully and allow police to carryout their investigation.

The law and order situation in Munda has since been restored but provincial police will continue to monitor the situation with the support of the Police Response Team.

Police are urging of members of both parties to refrain from any unnecessary violence and allow police officers to carry out their investigation.

Police are also calling on members of the public particularly around Munda Town area who may have any information or witnessed the incident to come forward and report to the police.

The 30-year-old accused is expected to appear at the Gizo Magistrates' Court on 30 April 2010.
