Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua yesterday held a brief meeting with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Mr Glyn Davis in Honiara.

The two leaders discussed important issues of mutual cooperation and interest to the two countries.

At the Meeting, Dr Sikua reaffirmed the relations between the Solomon Islands and the United States saying the ties remain warm and cordial.

The Prime Minister thanked the US for its assistance towards the tsunami relief and rehabilitation efforts and indicated that a lot of rehabilitation work remains to be done.

Dr Sikua also outlined the Coalition for National Unity and Rural Advancement (CNURA) Government's main priority areas and highlighted Solomon Islands commitment to closely work with other regional countries through dialogue and mutual respect.

Meanwhile, Mr Davis, who left Honiara yesterday, said he was very pleased with the friendly and cordial reception given to him by Prime Minister Sikua.

He said his visit to Honiara reflects the United States continued support for the people and Government of Solomon Islands.

Mr Davis said his Government was very impressed and pleased with the country's strong democratic process.

He said this was reflected very well during the recent political events which saw the establishment of a new government in a peaceful democratic process without any sort of violence.
