Prime Minister Dr. Derek Sikua has said that the C-NURA Government believe that Youth Parliament is an important medium that allows young people to see how the political machinery drives parliamentary democracy in the country.

Speaking at the media launch of the Youth Parliament awareness yesterday, Dr Sikua said such initiative strengthens ideals about parliamentary democracy.

He said it also develops within youths of the country a positive interest in national issues, assist young people understand political participation and most.

Dr Sikua said Youth Parliament also gives the young people an avenue where they can help shape government policy.

"It is also a firm commitment of the C-NURA government to demonstrate our support and partnership in the numerous instruments signed by Pacific Islands countries pledging their support for a more national and regional approach to youth development."

Dr Sikua affirmed his government's commitment to ensuring the country's youths are accorded with the best youth development mechanisms available in the country.

He said the proposed National Youth Parliament proper will be held at the National Parliament Chamber in November 2009.
