The country's new Prime Minister assures the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands of his support and continued presence in the country.

Speaking during his brief remarks after his election as the country's top leader Danny Phillip says his government will continue to work closely with RAMSI and they can be assured of his full support.

"It is paramount at this time that I notify all members of the Pacific Forum that I have no intention of kicking out RAMSI," said the Prime Minister.

"We all know there needs to be changes so that RAMSI's mandate can be more purposeful and relevant in line of the challenges facing Solomon Islands. To all the participating of the rank and files of RAMSI I am telling you that I am a leader you can work with."

Mr Phillip says he will spend the next couple of days putting his government policies together and choosing his ministers.
