Parliament has passed the Penalties Miscellaneous Bill in its second reading and Committee stage after a day's debate.

The Bill was tabled by the Minister for Justice and Legal affairs Laurie Chan last week.

Mr Chan said the bill sought Parliamentary approval to increase various penalties in various acts administered by various ministries.

He said some of the penalties are out of date and need up dating and instead of each Act be amended for increases, all the increases in penalties are contained in the Penalties Miscellaneous Bill.

Although the Opposition had raised some questions in relation to the application of the bill in certain Acts, the bill was passed unanimously.
