Package for Ex-Combatants Rehabilitation Yet To Be Revealed

The package for the rehabilitation of ex-combatants and the time frame for the settlement of the package are yet to be revealed.

This was stated in Parliament by the Minister for Reconciliation and Peace, Hon. Sam Iduri, when he was questioned on the issue.

Hon Iduri stated that a taskforce has been set up by the Ministry to work on the issue. Currently, a wide consultation has been done by the taskforce and the work is expected to be complete sometime next month.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been providing a Technical Assistant for a short term especially to help the Ministry and the task force.

When quizzed on the precise component of the rehabilitation package and the time frame to settle the package by the Opposition leader, Manasseh Sogavare, Hon Iduri stated that he is not currently in the position to answer until the taskforce has completed its work.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Fred Fono, also stated in Parliament that no cash payments will be made under the package
