With Christmas season just few weeks away, people are moving around town in big numbers and truck overload is no exception in Honiara.

Acting Police Commissioner, Peter Marshall, warned that overloading of vehicles has contributed to high cases of traffic accidents.

He echoed the warning following reports of a young woman from Tetere of East Guadalcanal who fell off the back of a truck and was badly injured.

The young woman died shortly after arriving at the National Referral Hospital.

"All we are asking for is common sense because we do not want any unnecessary, serious fatal motor accidents or any serious injuries to anyone," he said.

Mr. Marshall warned that police will be strict on overloading and that vehicle drivers will be held responsible.

He further added that this could lead to the arrest of vehicle drivers on overloading and the possibility of appearing before court is high.
