Member of Parliament for Rendova Tetepari, Francis Zama has made a scathing attack on the high cost of telecommunication services provided by Our Telekom company.

Speaking in parliament yesterday during question and answer time, Mr. Zama described services currently provided by Our Telekom as useless, hopeless and expensive.

The MP refused to withdraw the statement when he was asked by the Speaker to do so.

Mr. Zama said he wanted to let Telekom know that their services are too expensive for nothing.

He questioned Parliament on the law under which a monopoly agreement had been signed with Our Telekom.

Mr. Zama said if government is having legal complications in its attempts to break the current monopoly, it should look to the law of natural justices or under World Trade Organisations arrangements to solve the issue.

The MP for Temotu Nende Patterson Oti also raised his concern in Parliament over the very high cost of telecommunications services by Our Telekom.

Government said it is currently having goodwill negotiations with Our Telekom with the view of terminating the monopoly licence without government having to incur huge costs.
