The former Member of Parliament for Temotu Nende John Patteson Oti is a likely candidate for the Speaker of Parliament's election on Wednesday.

Reports from the Sunday Isles Newspaper said it is possible the newly formed Coalition Government led by Prime Minister Danny Philip will nominate Mr Oti as their candidate.

According to sources Mr Oti has reportedly resigned as the General Secretary of OUR Party, fueling speculations that he might be going for the top job.

It said the new government prefers Oti because of his profound understanding of the Standing Orders of the National Parliament of Solomon Islands and the National Constitution.

Clerk to Parliament Taeasi Sanga has confirmed that the Order of Business on Wednesday's meet will include the swearing in of the 50 Members of Parliament and the Election of a new Speaker.
