No Easy Way Out: NTU Director

"Getting extensions for your programmes will not be easy and students should know better by now that one has to work hard to earn his or her qualifications."

The National Training Unit Director, Selu Maezama, uttered this warning when he spoke to the Solomon Islands students at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji yesterday.

Addressing a U8 lecture theatre at the Laucala campus, filled to capacity, Mr. Maezama reminded students on the need to be aware of the significance of executing to the maximum the benefits of their scholarships as it is quiet hard these days to earn one with the large number of students applying each year.

Mr. Maezama warned that a minimum of two failed courses is liable for suspension, more than two results in termination of the scholarship.

"Getting back into the system is now hard, with the new National Training Unit of
Solomon Islands system in place called the scholar management data which will be used to monitor the academic performance of students."

Mr. Maezama said that only those with genuine reasons for extension will be considered for placement "and this placement is conditioned for only a semester."

He said that with the increasing number of students each year, NTU has taken strict measures to warn students of the consequences of failing, "so work hard and earn what you are here for, as there is no easy way out."

The meeting attracted not just Solomon Islands Government-sponsored students but also those under AusAID and NZAID scholarships.
