New Permanent Secretaries Appointed

The Solomon Islands Government through the Public Service Commission has recently appointed two new Permanent Secretaries.

Dr Franco Rodi is the new Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) and Jim Saele’a is the new Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL).

Dr Rodi comes from Lambu Lambu Village, South Vella Lavella, in the Western Province. He holds a Diploma in Education and a Bachelor of Science from the University of the South Pacific, a Master of Science from Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Western Australia and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from the University of Waikato in New Zealand.

He was a teacher by profession and has taught Secondary School Science for six years before joining the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development during which he worked in various departments. He was Under Secretary for Tertiary issues prior to his appointment as Permanent Secretary.

Mr Saele’a comes from Kilusakwalo village in Central Kwara’ae, Malaita Province. He has served in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock for many years as head of research. He was Under Secretary of the Ministry prior to his recent appointment to the Permanent Secretary post.

The new Permanent Secretaries have been appointed following the respective departure of former Permanent Secretaries Dr Fred Rohorua and Mr Frank Wickham.

Secretary to Cabinet Mr James Remobatu said the appointments were important to enable the Permanent Secretaries perform their ministerial duties with full authority. The appointments are valid for a duration of 4 years.
