A two day workshop to introduce teachers to a newly introduced teacher's guide book on biodiversity is currently underway in Honiara.

Organized by Live and Learn, a Non Government Organization, the workshop comprises of teachers from the Guadalcanal Province and the Honiara City Council Schools.

The new handbook is titled "Discovering Biodiversity" and the workshop is merely to introduce the teachers to the book and to see how they can merge the National Curriculum with the book.

Speaking to Solomon Times, the workshop coordinator, Mr. Wilson Puiahi, stated that the teachers are quite keen to introduce the book to their students as this could make their students understand the environment issues better.

He continues to say that he hopes the book will be used in the national curriculum soon.

"We believe that students would learn, value and have more concern for their environment from this book. In regards to the books layout, the book is very user friendly to students," he portrayed.

Solomon Times understands that the availability of such books was made possible by a project by the European Union, who is also funding similar projects within the Pacific Region.

Such a workshop is also the first of its kind in Honiara and organizers hope to extend it to the Provinces.
