The Solomon Islands National Parliament yesterday launched its official website (www.parliament.gov.sb).

The short ceremony, held inside the Parliamentary chambers, was attended by Members of Parliament, senior bureaucrats and invited guests.

Speaking at the launching of the website, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare stated that the website "ushers in a new era of information sharing which will advance and promote good governance in the Solomon Islands".

In launching the website, Speaker of Parliament, Sir Peter Kenilorea, said that the website will help "advance and empower parliamentary democracy in the Solomon Islands for many years to come".

A school principal who attended the launching said that the website is a milestone for, not only the National Parliament, but also for the nation. "Having access to credible information is very important, I am happy we were invited to witness this important event," the principal said.

The website is funded by the United Nations Development Programmes Parliamentary Strengthening Project.
