The Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS), with the technical support of Provincial Governance Strengthening Programme (PGSP), completed a one-week intensive training on International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS Cash Basis) for provincial officers of Western Province.

The training, which also included officers of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury and officers of the Auditor General's office, focused on the practical application of IPSAS in day to day reporting requirement of the provincial and central government.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening, Mr Stanley Pirione, in coordination with PGSP National Project Steering Committee has commenced the rolling out of IPSAS Cash Basis training across all provinces in Solomon Islands.

Since 2010 both the provincial governments and the SIG adopted International Public Sector Accounting Standard as the basis of Accounting. This became formally established as a policy in 2010 and later in 2013 when SIG revised its Financial Instructions.

Hon. Premier of Western Province, Hon. Wayne Maepio, says that such trainings will improve WPG financial reporting which has had some difficulties in recent years.

The Premier welcome participants from MoFT, OAG and the MPGIS by thanking the Ministry for providing all the resources required for the one week training of his officers.
