A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing paves way for development and upgrading to take place at the King George VI sports ground in East Honiara.
The signing ceremony at Kukum was between the Chairman of the National Sports council, Andrew Nori, the Commissioner of Lands Joseph Pinita, representative of the Honiara city council and the Government of Taiwan.Speaking at the MOU signing, the NSC Chairman, Mr. Nori acknowledged the financial support of the government of Taiwan to the country the past 30 years.
Mr. Nori said that the signing of the MOU marks the beginning of a series of steps for the sports council and also for the sports people of the country.
He said that the signing also reflects the government's successful arrangements of building a stadium at the grounds of KGVI.
The stadium will be built on the two soccer pitches of KGVI high school grounds, through to the rugby field and the SIFF Academy soccer grounds.
Mr. Nori made clear that the stadium, once completed, will give the students of KGVI privilege of full access to the stadium's facilities.
"There is a term that gives special considerations to the school," he added.
Mr. Nori said that series of discussions will continue between the NSC, the school board, relevant ministries and the commissioner to discuss all aspects purposely to the location.
He said that the MOU does not remove the powers of the Commissioner of Lands in dealing with the lands of Honiara.
Mr. Nori said that what has been done demonstrates an important dream for the sports people of Solomon Islands.
He shared his sincere gratitude to the government of Taiwan for making the people's dream come true.
Mr. Nori added that the MOU signing will give meaningful and sweet acceptance to the hearts and minds of the sporting community of the country.
