The Papua New Guinea High Commission in Solomon Islands has launched its first ever Employment Training Program in Honiara yesterday.

PNG High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands,Brian Yombo-Copio, said the Employment Training Program is an initiative by the government of Papua New Guinea through the Papua New Guinea High Commission office.

"It is a project intended primarily to engage young people who had never had the opportunity to be employed in both the private and the public sectors to get them engage with Papua New Guinea based companies here for a duration of four weeks, which will give them first hand experiences and which will enable them to develop skills."

Mr Yombo-Copio said the project also aims to introduce young Solomon Island graduates to PNG investors in Solomon Islands to show and test their potentials, which might earn them permanent employment in the future.

He said the initiative is the first of its kind to be introduced by the PNG government in the Solomon Islands, adding that over one hundred applications were received and only 25 were considered for the training.

The 25 students will undergo their four weeks training at respective PNG companies in Honiara starting next month.
