Referees have plenty of opportunities to further their career says SIFF President Martin Alufurai.

He mentioned this when addressing the referees at the weekend, before he officially opened the FIFA MA Beach Soccer Referees Course at the SIFF Academy.

Alufurai said with the introduction of Futsal and beach soccer, referees have greater opportunities to further their career in either of the codes.

"In the past we only have one code, the outdoor or 11-a-side but now with futsal and beach soccer you can choose which code you would want to specialize in. "For those who want aspire to take up refereeing seriously as career, you now have more opportunities than in the past," he told them.

The president also highlighted the achievements of some of the local referees including Neil Poloso (FIFA Instructor), FIFA Assistant referees Matthew Taro, Ms Jovita Qilamasala and others who have officiated in regional competitions to encourage those who aspire to take up refereeing as career.

He said these people were able to get to where they are through hard work and commitment and that should be an encouragement for the new referees.

Alufurai reminded the participants to make use of the opportunity to learn as much from the sessions as this is the first FIFA MA Beach Soccer referee course to be conducted in Solomon Islands.

Meanwhile the course which started on Saturday will end on Thursday with more than 30 referees equipped with beach soccer referees knowledge.
