The Ministry of Women, Youth and Children Affairs has in its 2009 New Year Message to the nation paid a special tribute to the boy who died at the hands of his father on Christmas Day.

The Ministry says the beginning of a new year brings with it renewed hope and recharged expectations.

It says it is in this spirit and hope that those from the Ministry send the Government and people of Solomon Islands its blessed New Year Greetings and with the best of expectations that 2009 promises a fine year.

However, the Ministry says it begins this year feeling very sad and disturbed by the death of the three year old boy who was allegedly killed by his own father on Christmas Day.

It says it is a stark reminder that violence exists in the home and thrives on the powerless and the most vulnerable.

The Ministry of Women, Youth and Children says the child died under the hands of his father, the person who is supposed to be protecting him.

The Ministry condemns in the strongest terms the cruel act of the father.
