Solomon Islands National Striker, Commins Menapi, has been named player of the year for Oceania Champions League winners Waitakere United.

Close to 140 fans and supporters, including Oceania Football Confederation General Secretary, Tai Nicholas, were present to witness West Auckland club's prize giving night.

Reports from NZ Community Football stated that Solomon Islands international, Commins Menapi picked up the award for leading scorer for Waitakere. Menapi also walked away with the much fancied golden boot as leading scorer in the O-League.

Menapi is currently in the Solomon Islands training with the national soccer team for the Pacific Games in Samoa. However, NZ Community Football stated that he did send a message to the gathering from his home here in Honiara.

"I would like to thank my team mates and everyone at Waitakere United for their support this year and for their recognition with this award. I am looking forward to returning soon to prepare for the trip to Japan [FIFA Club World Cup] and the new NZFC season and of course defending our O-League title again."
